Tim at Leadville 100 Update

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Well, haven’t spoken to Tim yet, but from what we know from his wife, Tim blew out a chainstay somewhere around mile 40. And, yes, he was a bit perturbed. Mostly about missing a good training day. But, Tim rallied and decided to pull support for his buddy and roommate, Kimo Seymour. I’m sure we’ll get the story upon Tim’s return. For now, here’s a couple shots of Tim at the race’s start, before the day turned sour.

All Smiles
Tim looks all smiles here.

Hopefully, Tim will feel like chatting a bit about how the day unfolded. All I know is that his Felt 29′er looked sweet in the days leading upto the race and Tim was psyched to push it hard.

Tim Checks in from Leadville

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

So, Tim is already up in Leadville preparing for the big 100 mile MTB race on Saturday morning. He’s renting a small house in town with Red Rock buddy & bad-ass ultra Mtn Bike Guy, Kimo Seymour. The home apparently reminds Tim of
“the Tipsy House” back at Arnold’s Park on Lake Okoboji in Iowa. The Tipsy House was just like it sounds, all crooked and made you feel like you were walking on a ship deck in a rough sea. Tim and Kimo are battling sea sickness while staying in the house. And, apparently the Leadville Events must fund the town for the entire year as the cost of renting a home in Leadville this week could rent a luxurious beach house on Alii Drive in Kona during Ironman week - good pay if you can get it I guess.

Tim’s comment about the course thus far:

“As for the course, I think I will be fine on the uphills, even strong maybe, but will be cautious on the downhills. Nothing really technical at all, but very fast. I will lose lots of time on descents just being careful. Should be very fun though. I think after last weekend, this will be a tough double.”

One more shot of the rides. Tim’s sportin’ his Felt 29′er for race day and will be styling in his Pearl Izumi kit. I believe Kimo will be rocking Team Pearl Izumi as well - gotta keep it in the family.
Check back for more photos as things start rolling in the high country (11,000 ft high that is!).

Next Up This Weekend For Tim: Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

leadville-100

Tim’s headed up to Leadville on Thursday for Saturday’s Leadville 100 MTB Race. “The Race Across The Sky” earned alot of attention last year when Lance entered and won in a course record. This year, looks like more cyclists are following foot with Levi Lepheimer entered, along with 10 current or previous US National Mountain Bike Champions, 6 Olympians and a multitude of other bad ass athletes. Names like Dave Wiens (2nd last year), Matt Shriver (3rd last year), Jeremy Horgen-Koblenski (considered the favorite among cycling circles), Todd Wells, Tinker Juarez, Ned Overend and more.

Tim’s goals are a bit more modest for the event. Yes, be competitive, but keep the rubber-side down and race with the idea that a much more important event looms 8 weeks down the road on a little island in the Pacific. Don’t take any unnecessary risks.

A Few Shots of Tim at Ironman 70.3 Boulder

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Tim finished a respectable 6th overall at the Boulder 70.3 on Sunday. About what one would expect from someone in preparation for the Ironman World Championships in 9 weeks. Next up for Tim is the Leadville 100 Mountain Bike Race. While Tim will be towing the line with the likes of Lance Armstrong and Levi Lepheimer, just to name a couple of familiar faces in the pro ranks, TIm’s goals for the race remain modest- get a long, challenging training day in that he can build off for Kona..oh, and stay on the bike.

This first awesome shot is by Photog Extraordinaire, Eric Wynn. You can find more of Eric’s amazing skills here.

Tim in Aspen

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Here’s a couple shots of Tim and the Mrs. “chilling” in Aspen before the build up for Kona begins. A week of riding the mountains and running the trails - all for fun though. This is how pro triathletes take a vacation.
